Privacy Policy
Last updated 8 October 2026. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit our website or store with us, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it and your rights under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
1. Who we are
The data controller is CMI DEMOLITION&CLEARENCE LTD, trading as London Container Storage, operating the storage service in association with DUDAR MOVING LTD, company number 17011249, registered office 121 Middlefields, Croydon, England, CR0 9LH. Our storage yard is at Walthamstow, London, E17 3NT. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under reference ZC199219. For any question about your personal information, email bookings@lcstorage.co.uk.
2. What we collect
- Your details: name, email address, phone number, home address and, if you give one, company name.
- Your ID: a copy of the photo ID you upload when you book (for example a passport or driving licence).
- Your booking: container, dates, prices, insurance choice and the value you declare, any collection request and address, your answers to our short booking questions, your storage agreement, and the history of your storage with us.
- Payments: what you paid, when and how. Card and bank details are entered on the secure page of our payment provider, Stripe, and never reach our systems. For a Direct Debit we keep only the last four digits of your bank account and the mandate reference.
- Messages: the emails we send you and your replies, and messages you send us through the website, email or WhatsApp.
- Website use, only if you allow visit statistics: the pages you visit, the site you came from, your device type and your IP address, to understand how the site is used and to keep it secure.
3. How we use it, and our legal reasons
- To provide your storage (booking, access, your storage agreement, payments and Direct Debit collections, service emails such as collection notices, reminders and receipts, and dealing with your deposit when you move out): because it is necessary for our contract with you.
- To check who stores with us (your ID), to keep the yard and other clients' goods safe, to prevent fraud and misuse, and to recover money owed: because we have a legitimate interest in running a safe, secure storage business.
- To keep business and accounting records: because the law requires it.
- To improve our website from visit statistics: because you agreed to it in our cookie banner. You can withdraw that at any time from "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.
- To ask for a review of our service after you move in, occasionally: because of our legitimate interest in running and improving our business. You can ask us to stop at any time.
- To deal with a complaint and keep a record of how it was resolved: because of our legitimate interest in putting things right, and to meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, we do not use it for third-party advertising, and we do not make decisions about you by automated means alone.
4. Who we share it with
- Stripe, our payment provider, which processes card payments and Direct Debits and runs the Direct Debit scheme checks. Stripe acts as a separate controller for some of this; see its privacy policy at stripe.com.
- The service providers who run our systems: our website and email hosting, and the IT and software providers that support them and our staff, who act only on our instructions.
- Google, only if you allow Google Maps or press "Show the map": Google then receives your IP address and may set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy (policies.google.com).
- Our insurer, if you take insurance through us or a claim is made.
- Our professional advisers, and debt recovery agents or courts if money is owed.
- The police and other authorities, when the law requires it or to prevent crime.
- A buyer of our business, if it is sold, under the same protections.
Some of these providers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, we make sure it is protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as UK adequacy regulations or the UK's approved data transfer agreements.
5. How long we keep it
- Your booking, agreement and payment records: for as long as you store with us, then for 6 years after your storage ends, as the law requires for business and tax records and in case of a claim.
- Your ID document: while you store with us and for as long afterwards as we reasonably need it, for example while anything is owed. You can ask us to delete it once your storage has ended and nothing is outstanding.
- Website statistics: we remove the IP address from a visit record after 90 days and delete the record itself after 14 months.
6. How we protect it
Our website uses an encrypted connection. Your ID and your documents are kept in private storage that is not reachable from the internet and are available only to our staff. Access to our systems is password protected and limited to the people who need it.
7. Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of your personal information, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Some rights have limits: for example, we must keep certain records by law. To use any of these rights, email bookings@lcstorage.co.uk; we reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113).
8. Cookies
We use the cookies the website needs to work, such as a session cookie that keeps your booking steps and the security of our forms together. Our own visit statistics and the Google map of our yard are used only if you allow them in our cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time from "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. We do not use advertising cookies. Our Cookie Policy lists every cookie we use.
9. Children
Our service is for adults: you must be 18 or over to book.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed, and we will tell you about any important change by email if you store with us.
